need pain for happiness
According to Amy Morin, the author of “13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do,” you cannot have happiness without pain. That’s right!

Amy states:

The biggest misconception about happiness is that the path to happiness involves avoiding pain. But pain is actually a necessary part of happiness.

According to research, here are 5 ways pain can lead to pleasure.

1. Helps you recognize pleasure

Without pain, you wouldn’t know what pleasure is.

2. Relief from pain boosts pleasure

When you are relieved of pain, you feel much happier than you did before you had the pain.

3. Forms social bonds

By sharing similar suffering, a bond is formed between people. Experiencing pain promotes empathy that allows you to connect to other people.

4. Gives you permission to reward yourself

A cold beer tastes a lot better after you’ve mowed the lawn. After pain, you are more likely to reward yourself and you will enjoy the reward a lot more.

5. Captures your attention

When you are in pain, you are truly in the moment. As a result, your mind is not busy ruminating about the past or worrying about the future. Extending this habit after the pain is over can help you live a happier life.
